Another day, another five-game volleyball match for Weston Ranch High.

For the second straight night, the Cougars pulled out a five-game thriller Wednesday, this time dispatching Stagg on the road — 25-20, 25-22, 15-25, 23-25, 15-9. On Tuesday, they went the distance with Franklin and came out on top.

It’s the third time in four matches that Weston Ranch (2-2) has gone five games, the first coming in its season-opening loss at Tracy.

In Wednesday’s match, the Cougars recaptured the magic that helped them stake a two-games-to-none lead at the outset, firing out to a 6-0 lead in the fifth game.

“We came together for our last game and pulled it out,” said first-year head coach Debbie Chavez. “They proved again that they can win when they have to. Now, our focus for our next match (Monday at Central Valley) is getting the job done earlier and finishing it.”

Candisse Griffin pounded six kills and Aolani Etu dished out 20 assists to lead the way. Jasvir Kaur recorded five blocks, while Mirando Holmes contributed three.

Gregori 3, Lathrop 0

In Salida, the first-year varsity Jaguars (4-0) rolled to a 25-8, 25-9, 25-9 win behind 20 kills from Maycie LaBass and 30 assists and four aces from Emilee Van Dyke.

Erica Sanchez led Lathrop (1-3) with four kills, and Janet Butler finished with 10 assists.
