STOCKTON — Two days into their first varsity soccer season and the much ballyhooed junior class at Weston Ranch has a title.
The Cougars (3-0) completed their sweep of the Brown and Gold Tournament at Stagg High Saturday with victories over Excel and the tournament host’s frosh-soph team by a cumulative score of 9-1.
Joseph Mayorca led a 4-0 victory over Excel with a hat trick. Senior Josh Mayorca notched the other goal as the Cougars peppered Excel’s goal with 36 shots.
“We played a great first half, moved the ball well and had many scoring opportunities,” Cisneros said. “The second half was not as clean.”
Weston Ranch completed its tournament title with a decisive 5-1 win over Stagg’s lower-level team. Five different players found the back of the net: Arthur Garcia, Marco Jaimes, Kevin Medina, Jesus Flores and Mariano Perez.
Perez also had two assists.
“Overall, we are happy with our performance,” said Cisneros, whose junior class went unbeaten in 2012 at the frosh-soph level, capturing the Valley Oak League crown. “We have a few things to work on and improve on, but winning the tournament was definitely a good start to our season.
“The competition gets tougher next week, so that will give us a better picture of where we stand.”
Weston Ranch takes on Lincoln and Chavez, before competing in the Buffalo Cup.
