Knights comeback falls short

RIPON — Ripon Christian’s sophomore girls basketball team managed to make a game of it after trailing by as much as nine points midway through the fourth quarter, but the Knights were unable to complete the comeback in a 44-40 loss to Hughson.
Ripon Christian shrunk the deficit to two with a free throw with 25.9 seconds remaining, but the Huskies clinched it with a layup just moments before the final buzzer.
RaeAnn DeRousse led the charge for Ripon Christian with 10 points. Morgan and Mikaela Alger finished with eight points apiece.
Sonora 41, Lathrop 25
The Spartans (6-4, 10-10) dealt the first big blow of the game, a 15-2 Sonora run in the first, and couldn’t recover.
Jasmine Elder fired in 12 points to lead Lathrop.
Lathrop heads to Sierra Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. tipoff.
Lathrop 42, Oakdale 26
On Saturday, Elder and Brittany Rallios were nails from beyond the 3-point arc to spearhead the Spartans.
Elder dropped in four 3-pointers to account for most of her game-high 18 points. Rallios added 10 points, while hitting two threes.
“The girls played well tonight,” Lathrop coach Ed Fang said. “It’s good to rebound from the loss, get back on track and start playing good basketball again.”

Lathrop lost an overtime heartbreaker Saturday on one of its own inbounds plays that led to an easy game-clinching layup for Oakdale.
Sophia Hernandez recorded 10 points to lead the Spartans.
