MODESTO (AP) — Chris Mariscal homered and had two hits, driving in two as the Modesto Nuts defeated the Visalia Rawhide 3-1 on Wednesday.
Lukas Schiraldi struck Henry Castillo out with a runner on first to end the game for his third save of the season.
Modesto started the scoring in the first inning when Mariscal hit a sacrifice fly and Eric Filia scored on an error.
After Modesto added a run in the third on a home run by Mariscal, the Rawhide cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Daniel Lockhart hit a solo home run.
Modesto right-hander Nick Neidert (9-3) picked up the win after allowing one run on five hits over five innings. Opposing starter Bo Takahashi (5-4) took the loss in the California League game after allowing three runs and six hits over five innings.
Lockhart homered and singled for the Rawhide.
Modesto improved to 11-3 against Visalia this season.
