Ripon Lady Cyclones Fastpitch came home with one championship (under-12 Red, pictured) and two second-place finishes (under-10, under-12 Black) in the Bring It On tournament in Reno this past weekend.

The Manteca FC Newcastle under-11 girls soccer team captured the U.S. Club Soccer National Cup X Regional championship in the Super Group division this past weekend at Ripon’s Mistlin Sports Complex.

Newcastle, ranked seventh nationally, was led by a stout defensive effort in earning its third straight tournament title.

On Saturday, the team kicked off competition with a commanding 5-0 victory over Palo Alto SC Blue Thunder. Then on Sunday, it blew past 2010 state semifinalist Diablo FC, 4-0. The championship was secured Sunday evening with a 2-0 triumph over Santa Rosa United Tremors.

Selena Alvarez, Alexis Vilarino, Lejla Pepic, Dayanna Hernandez, Mia Villegas, Kelsey Hill and Faith Chavez each chipped in with goals. Mia Cazel and Daisy Galindo were in control of the midfield throughout the tournament, and Annika Bergstrand helped the attacking line maintain pressure.

The defense was anchored by Nathalie Munigua, Maddie Cuculich, Linnea Natale and goalies Andrea Eusbio and Marcella Salyer. The back line has allowed just one goal — versus 37 scored on the offensive third — over its last eight matches.

Newcastle returns to action this weekend in the Cal Cup in Sacramento.
