CHICAGO (AP) — Alex Morgan could return to the U.S. women’s soccer team for the first time since an ankle injury last fall when the Americans play a pair of exhibition games against France.

Morgan, who has 40 goals in 70 international appearances, hurt her ankle during training in late October, played against Brazil on Nov. 10 and hasn’t appeared since.

U.S. Soccer said Monday she will be evaluated by the team’s medical and performance staff ahead of the games on June 14 at Tampa, Florida, and five days later at East Hartford, Connecticut.

The 26-player roster is the first for the Americans since Jill Ellis was hired as coach on May 16. She had been the interim coach since Tom Sermanni was fired in early April.

Midfielder Shannon Boxx will attend training camp for evaluation. The three-time Olympic gold medalist, who has 27 goals in 186 appearances, hadn’t been on the roster since the Algarve Cup in March 2011 and is rejoining the team for the first time since giving birth to a daughter in February.

Midfielder Kristie Mewis has recovered from an ankle injury that hampered her since April.

Ellis will select 18 players to dress for each match.
