Aviators soar past Sac in PCL semifinals opener

SACRAMENTO (AP) — Alfonso Rivas hit a three-run home run in the third inning, leading the Las Vegas Aviators to a 9-3 win over the Sacramento River Cats in the opening round of the Pacific Coast League semifinals on Wednesday.

The home run by Rivas gave the Aviators a 6-1 lead and capped a five-run inning for Las Vegas. Earlier in the inning, Eric Campbell hit an RBI single and then scored on a double by Mark Payton.

The Aviators later added a run in the fourth and two in the seventh. In the fourth, Skye Bolt hit a solo home run, while Jonah Heim hit a two-run double in the seventh.

Ben Bracewell (2-3) got the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Sacramento starter Ryan Halstead (0-1) took the loss.

With the win, Las Vegas improved to 12-5 against Sacramento this season.


Rawhide 3, Giants 1

SAN JOSE (AP) — Geraldo Perdomo had four hits, and Justin Vernia allowed just two hits over 6 2/3 innings as the Visalia Rawhide rolled to the Game 1 victory in the California League North Division Finals on Wednesday.

Vernia (9-3) allowed one run while striking out eight and walking one to pick up the win.

Visalia started the scoring in the first inning when Luis Alejandro Basabe hit an RBI single and Alek Thomas scored on a forceout.

After Visalia added a run in the fourth when Jancarlos Cintron hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Max Murphy, the Giants cut into the deficit in the seventh inning when David Villar hit an RBI single, bringing home Shane Matheny.

Aaron Phillips (8-8) went six innings, allowing three runs and six hits while striking out two.
