Barrera’s triple helps power Ports past Nuts

 MODESTO (AP) — Luis Barrera hit a run-scoring triple in the sixth inning, leading the Stockton Ports to a 3-0 win over the Modesto Nuts on Friday.

The triple by Barrera scored Dairon Blanco and was the game’s last scoring play.

In the top of the second, Stockton grabbed the lead on a single by Brallan Perez that scored Luke Persico.

Stockton starter Dustin Hurlbutt (2-2) picked up the win after allowing just two hits over seven scoreless innings. Opposing starter Reggie McClain (2-5) took the loss in the California League game after allowing three runs and 10 hits over seven innings. Andrew Tomasovich retired the side in order for his third save of the season.

The Nuts were held off the scoreboard for the eighth time this season, while the Ports’ staff recorded their eighth shutout of the year.

Stockton improved to 6-2 against Modesto this season.
