GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Carlos Santana had two hits and Joey Butler hit a grand slam on Friday, powering the Cleveland Indians to a 10-8 win over the Oakland Athletics.
Santana singled and scored from first on Jose Ramirez’s double off Jesse Hahn, who was shut down last July because of a strained forearm. Hahn allowed two runs on four hits in four innings.
“I started out with a bad tempo,” Hahn said. “It is something I’ve been trying to fix.”
Butler, claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay, hit his second homer off Seth Frankoff to cap an eight-run fifth inning.
“Joey (Butler) has been a little inconsistent this spring, but we’ve seen him get hot,” Indians manager Terry Francona said. “He put a good swing on the ball. He showed that he’s got it in there.”
Chris Canha doubled home a pair of runs in the first off Cleveland’s Josh Tomlin, who allowed three runs on 10 hits and a walk in 3 1/3 innings. Tomlin is working to get the final spot in the Indians’ rotation.
“I know he’s not trying to give up 10 hits but only three runs. It says a lot about him,” Francona said. “He could have easily given up six.”
Andrew Lambo had two hits for the Athletics. Josh Phegley hit his second home run off Austin Adams. Yonder Alonso, who is competing for the A’s first base/DH job, singled to raise his spring average to .409. Canha also finished with two hits.
Oakland’s Franklin Barreto hit a three-run homer off Felipe Paulino in the ninth to finish the scoring.

STARTING TIME
Athletics: Hahn has allowed two runs in each of his three outings as he tries to get all the way back in form from his forearm problems last season.
“I worked this offseason to get a little bigger and stronger,” Hahn said. “I have more drive off the rubber and I’m using my lower half more.”
Indians: Tomlin pitched into the fourth inning for the first time this spring. He has given up at least one run in all five spring appearances. He allowed four hits but no runs in the third inning.
“He was fighting uphill all day,” Francona said.

ACCIDENTAL TOURISTS
The Athletics made it to the game on time, although the trip took longer than expected.
The team bus was delayed by heavy traffic caused by an accident on Interstate 10 in the Phoenix area. The 36-mile trip from Mesa to Goodyear took 65 minutes. The Indians’ public relations staff sent a text at 12:10 p.m. warning that the game could be delayed, but the bus arrived 10 minutes later.

Athletics: RHP Jarrod Parker is on the 60-day disabled list with a fracture in his right elbow. He will need a fourth operation on the elbow.
Indians: OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) will play his first spring game against the Cubs on Saturday. ...
