Bell leads Modesto to win over San Jose

SAN JOSE (AP) — Randy Bell allowed just five hits over six innings, leading the Modesto Nuts over the San Jose Giants in a 6-3 win on Thursday.

Wyatt Mills got Matt Winn to ground out with the bases loaded to end the game for his fourth save of the season.

Bell (2-2) picked up the win after he struck out six while allowing three runs.

San Jose started the scoring in the first inning when Jalen Miller hit a sacrifice fly and Sandro Fabian hit an RBI single.

After the teams traded runs, the Nuts took the lead for good with four runs in the seventh inning. The Nuts sent 10 men to the plate as Gareth Morgan hit an RBI single and Donnie Walton hit an RBI double en route to the two-run lead.

The Nuts tacked on another run in the ninth when Evan White hit an RBI double, driving in Walton.

Caleb Baragar (0-2) retired one batter by strikeout in the California League game.
