Bride leads Stockton to win over Modesto

MODESTO (AP) —Jonah Bride doubled twice and singled as the Stockton Ports defeated the Modesto Nuts 6-4 on Thursday.

Stockton took the lead in the first when it scored four runs, including a double by Ryan Gridley that scored Lazaro Armenteros.

After Stockton added a run in the fourth on a single by Jameson Hannah, the Nuts cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Jake Scheiner hit a sacrifice fly and Jack Larsen and Eugene Helder scored on an error.

The Ports tacked on another run in the ninth when Nico Giarratano scored on an error.

Modesto saw its comeback attempt come up short after Keegan McGovern hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to cut the Stockton lead to 6-4.

RAWHIDE 4, 

GIANTS 3

VISALIA (AP) — Anfernee Grier hit a walk-off solo homer, as the Visalia Rawhide beat the San Jose Giants 4-3 on Thursday.

The Rawhide tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh when Grier scored on a forceout.

Grier was a triple short of the cycle, scoring three runs in the win.

Cole Bartlett (7-5) got the win with two innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Casey Meisner (2-2) took the loss in the California League game.

GRIZZLIES 3, 

RIVER CATS 1

FRESNO (AP) —  Jose Marmolejos hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, leading the Fresno Grizzlies to a 3-1 win over the Sacramento River Cats on Thursday. The River Cats saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with the loss.

The home run by Marmolejos, part of a two-run inning, tied the game 1-1 before Brandon Snyder hit a solo home run later in the inning.

The Grizzlies tacked on another run in the eighth when Jake Noll hit an RBI double, bringing home Matt Reynolds.

In a classic pitchers’ duel, Fresno’s Wil Crowe and Sacramento’s Dereck Rodriguez delivered great starts. Crowe allowed one run and six hits over six innings. He also struck out five and walked two. 

Rodriguez went six scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out seven and walking three.

George Kontos (2-0) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Dillon McNamara (0-1) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game.
