MODESTO (AP) — Gio Brusa homered, doubled and singled, driving in four runs and scoring a pair as the San Jose Giants topped the Modesto Nuts 13-7 on Thursday.
Wander Franco doubled twice and singled with three runs and two RBIs for San Jose.
Modesto took a 5-4 lead in the second after Gareth Morgan hit a two-run home run as part of a four-run inning.
Trailing 7-6, the Giants took the lead for good with two runs in the seventh inning. Sandro Fabian hit an RBI double en route to the one-run lead.
The Giants later added two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth. In the eighth, Brusa hit a two-run home run, while Franco drove in two runs and Brusa drove in one in the ninth.
Connor Overton (1-0) got the win in relief while Austin Hutchison (0-1) took the loss in the California League game. Dylan Rheault pitched three scoreless innings for his second save of the season.
In the losing effort, Modesto got contributions throughout its order, as five players recorded at least two hits. Bryson Brigman doubled and singled twice, scoring three runs.
