Buffs clip Enochs in tourney play

Manteca High put a nice finishing touch on its Modesto City Classic appearance, edging out Enochs High 52-49 Saturday at Downey High.

Austin Haro continued his scoring onslaught, finishing with a game-high 21 points to lead all scorers. Haro came out sizzling, sinking three 3-pointers in the first period on his way to 11 in the first. Haro would finish with four 3-pointers in the win.

Manteca (2-1) also got seven points apiece from Miguel Lopez and Michael Hattfield.

“It was nice to get the win,” Manteca head coach Dave Asuncion said.

Sierra 60, Ceres 38

The Sierra Timberwolves improved to 2-0 with a one-sided victory over the visiting Ceres Bulldogs Saturday.

Justin Patton led the way for the Timberwolves, finishing with 17 to lead all scorers.

Guillermo Nunez finished with 11, Eric Melgar and Emmanuel Elijah both chipped in with 10 to round out the Timberwolves in double-figures.

Sierra (2-0) will be back on the court Wednesday when they meet up with the El Cerrito.

Sierra will play Thursday when Edison Tournament action gets underway.


Sierra 48, Ceres 23

The Sierra sophomore basketball club had little trouble with the visiting Ceres Bulldogs, blasting their former Valley Oak League mates by 25 points Saturday.

Joshua Patton led the Timberwolves in scoring, closing out the win in double-figures with 11. Patton was also a force on the defensive end, collecting five blocks. Hunter Johnson and Devin Nunez both finished with nine.


Sierra 54, Ceres 15

The Timberwolves held Ceres to five points or less in each of the four quarters, stopping the Bulldogs with ease in a 54-15 blowout.

Jess Spivey led the squad with 16, while Daniel Wyatt added a dozen.


Ripon 54, Sierra 37

The Timberwolves were not able to keep pace with the host Ripon Indians, falling to Ripon 54-37 Saturday in nonleague action.

Sierra got a huge performance from Celine Barber as she exploded with 20 points in a losing effort.

Sierra (0-1) also got eight points from Kayla Wilson and seven from Katelyn Teixeira.
