ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Oakland Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr returned to practice three days after being knocked out of a preseason game with a concussion and sore ribs.

Carr practiced on a limited basis Monday and his status for the upcoming exhibition game in Green Bay on Friday night remains a question.

Carr got hurt in the fourth quarter last Friday against Detroit when he was hit from behind by Larry Webster. Carr got up and immediately pointed at his ribs but later said the concussion was more of a concern. Carr has never had a concussion previously in his career.

Carr played well before the injury and even got one drive in with the starting offensive line and receivers.

Kansas City’s Charles injured leaving dorm

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jamaal Charles made it through every hit from Derrick Johnson, every shot from Eric Berry and every tackle from the rest of the Chiefs’ defense during three weeks at Missouri Western.

It wasn’t until he was leaving their training camp home that he got hurt.

Manziel struggles in Browns’ loss to Redskins

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer didn’t make Mike Pettine’s decision any easier. Good luck picking a starting quarterback after this mess, Coach.

Manziel struggled to hit open receivers and added another gesture to his repertoire — a middle finger apparently aimed at the Washington Redskins’ bench — while Hoyer completed only two passes in five series. Neither the hot-shot rookie nor the nondescript sixth-year veteran looked ready to claim a No. 1 NFL gig, failing to live up to the big-time setting of a final audition in the Cleveland Browns’ 24-23 Monday night loss to the Washington Redskins.

Cardinals DT Dockett tears ACL, out for season

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett, one of the most durable players in the NFL over the past decade, tore the ACL in his right knee during practice Monday and will undergo season-ending surgery.

The team said the extent of the injury was revealed in an MRI.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Dockett has missed only two games in 10 NFL seasons. He has started 156 of the 158 games in which he appeared.

Dockett was hurt in an 11-on-11 drill. He limped away but had to be helped onto a cart. Dockett lay on his back as he was carted off the field.

Titans RB Greene
practices after knee scare

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Titans running back Shonn Greene says his right knee didn’t hurt during practice Monday, his first workout since it was briefly bent the wrong way in a preseason game.

Greene has had two arthroscopic surgeries on that knee within the past year since getting hurt in the opener last season, costing him five games. He had a second procedure in May.

Gronk in contact drills for 1st time since surgery

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Rob Gronkowski is participating in contact drills with the New England Patriots for the first time since his knee surgery.

The star tight end says he’s planning to be ready for the season opener on Sept. 7 against the Miami Dolphins.

Gronkowski tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee on Dec. 8 and underwent surgery on Jan. 9. He had been practicing on the side with quarterback Tom Brady during training camp.
