Chisholm, Smith lead Visalia past Modesto

VISALIA  (AP) —Jasrado Chisholm was a triple short of the cycle, scoring three runs while also driving in three as the Visalia Rawhide defeated the Modesto Nuts 7-3 on Sunday.

Pavin Smith doubled and singled twice with three RBIs for Visalia.

Visalia started the scoring in the first inning when Renae Martinez and Smith hit RBI doubles.

The Rawhide later added two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh. In the sixth, Smith hit a two-run single, while Chisholm hit a three-run home run in the seventh.

Modesto missed an additional scoring opportunity in the eighth, when Louis Boyd flew out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Robby Sexton (1-3) got the win with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Modesto starter Darren McCaughan (6-9) took the loss in the California League game. Matt Brill pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his second save of the season.

RAWHIDE 6, NUTS 1:  Marcus Wilson had three hits and scored two runs, and Riley Smith allowed just two hits over seven innings as the Visalia Rawhide topped the Modesto Nuts 6-1 on Saturday.

Smith (7-5) picked up the win after he struck out eight and walked two while allowing one run.

Visalia got on the board first in the fourth inning when Wilson hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Renae Martinez.

After Visalia added a run in the fifth on a home run by Jasrado Chisholm, the Nuts cut into the deficit in the seventh inning when Evan White scored on an error.

The Rawhide later added two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth. In the seventh, Mark Karaviotis hit an RBI triple and then scored on a single by Chisholm, while Luis Silverio hit an RBI triple in the eighth.

Nick Wells (4-4) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and seven hits in the California League game. He also struck out six and walked one.
