NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Anthony Davis scored 27 points, DeMarcus Cousins had 15 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists before seriously injuring his left Achilles, and New Orleans survived a furious Houston rally for a 115-113 victory Friday night.
A person familiar with the situation said Pelicans team physicians have provided a preliminary diagnosis of an Achilles tear, which would end Cousins’ season little more than a week after he was named an All-Star starter.  The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because, officially, the team said an MRI will determine the severity of the injury.
The injury, which occurred as Cousins pursued a missed free throw with 12 second left in the game, all but squelched the jubilation from a team and its fans, who otherwise would have been celebrating a fourth straight victory and seventh in eight games.

CLEVELAND (AP) — LeBron James had his 63rd career triple-double — overcoming 11 turnovers — and Cleveland showed signs of ending a stunning slump with a victory over Indiana.
James finished with 26 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds to help the Cavs, following a minor lineup switch by coach Tyronn Lue, wins for just the fourth time in 11 games. However, James kept Indiana close in the fourth with six turnovers.

A fourth straight victory and seventh victory in eight games coming against one of the NBA’s top teams should have been reason to celebrate, but there was a lot of concern about Cousins, who could not put any weight on his left foot as he was helped to the locker room with less than 15 seconds left. Team officials said an MRI will determine the severity of the injury.
