Culbreth, JetHawks stifle Modesto

MODESTO (AP) — Carlos Herrera had three hits and two RBI, and Ty Culbreth allowed just five hits over seven innings as the Lancaster JetHawks defeated the Modesto Nuts 4-2 on Tuesday.

Culbreth (4-3) allowed one run while striking out six to pick up the win.

Lancaster started the scoring in the first inning when Herrera and Tyler Nevin hit RBI doubles.

Trailing 4-1, the Nuts cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Louis Boyd scored on a balk.

Ljay Newsome (4-5) went five innings, allowing four runs and 11 hits while striking out four in the California League game. Reid Humphreys retired the side in order for his 16th save of the season.

Evan White singled three times for the Nuts.

With the win, Lancaster improved to 5-1 against Modesto this season.
