Dennis leads Lancaster to win over Modesto

MODESTO (AP) — Matt Dennis allowed just three hits over six innings, leading the Lancaster JetHawks over the Modesto Nuts in a 3-1 win on Thursday.

Dennis (5-8) picked up the win after he struck out six and walked two while allowing one run.

After four scoreless innings, Lancaster got on the board in the top of the fifth when Brett Stephens hit a two-run triple and then scored on a single by Manuel Melendez.

The Nuts cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Kyle Lewis hit an RBI double, scoring Evan White.

Reggie McClain (2-6) went seven innings, allowing three runs and six hits in the California League game. He also struck out six and walked two.

Reid Humphreys retired the side in order for his 17th save of the season.

Lancaster improved to 6-2 against Modesto this season.
