Diaz’s single leads Lancaster to 6 win over Modesto Nuts

MODESTO,  (AP) — Joel Diaz hit a two-run single in the fifth inning, leading the Lancaster JetHawks to a 6-4 win over the Modesto Nuts on Sunday.

The single by Diaz scored Luke Morgan and Matt McLaughlin to give the JetHawks a 2-1 lead.

The JetHawks later added one run in the sixth, two in the seventh, and one in the ninth to secure the victory.

Lancaster right-hander Will Gaddis (10-7) picked up the win after allowing one run on just three hits over 5 1/3 innings. Opposing starter Penn Murfee (5-5) took the tough loss in the California League game after giving up two runs and five hits over five innings.

For the Nuts, Keegan McGovern doubled twice and singled.

LANCASTER 4, MODESTO 3

MODESTO  (AP) —Ryan Vilade hit a run-scoring single in the eighth inning to give the Lancaster JetHawks a 4-3 win over the Modesto Nuts on Saturday.

Matt Hearn scored on the play after he reached base on an error and stole second.

The single by Vilade scored Hearn to give the JetHawks a 4-3 lead.

Matt McLaughlin hit a two-run double in the second inning to give the JetHawks a 2-0 lead. The Nuts came back to take a 3-2 lead in the third inning when Jake Scheiner hit a two-run home run.

Lancaster tied the game 3-3 in the sixth when Hearn scored when a runner was thrown out.

Nate Harris (4-5) got the win with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Kyle Wilcox (2-5) took the loss in the California League game.

Scheiner homered and singled, scoring a pair of runs while also driving home a couple for the Nuts.

RIVER CATS 8, ACES 1

RENO, Nev. (AP) —- Mauricio Dubon homered and had four hits, driving in two, and Justin Haley allowed just four hits over six innings as the Sacramento River Cats beat the Reno Aces 8-1 on Sunday.

Haley (1-1) picked up the win after he struck out three and walked one while allowing one run.

Reno cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third after Carlos Asuaje scored on a groundout.

The River Cats extended their lead in the seventh inning when Dubon hit a solo home run and Aramis Garcia scored on an error.

The River Cats later scored four runs in the ninth to finish off the blowout.

Braden Shipley (4-5) went five innings, allowing two runs and five hits while striking out five in the Pacific Coast League game.

RENO 13, SACRAMENTO 10

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Tim Locastro hit a two-run double in the eighth inning, leading the Reno Aces to a 13-10 win over the Sacramento River Cats on Saturday.

The double by Locastro came in the midst of a seven-run inning and gave the Aces a 12-10 lead. Later in the inning, Ildemaro Vargas hit an RBI triple, scoring Locastro.

Damien Magnifico (2-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless, three-hit relief while Steven Okert (8-2) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game.

In the losing effort, Mike Gerber had four hits, while Aramis Garcia and Jaylin Davis had four and three, respectively. The River Cats squandered some scoring chances, leaving 12 runners on base in the loss.
