Gatto, Rengifo lift Inland Empire over Modesto

MODESTO (AP) — Luis Rengifo hit a two-run home run and had three hits, driving in three, and Joe Gatto allowed just one hit over six innings as the Inland Empire 66ers beat the Modesto Nuts 6-0 on Tuesday.
Gatto (2-0) struck out five and walked two to get the win.
In the top of the first, Inland Empire took the lead on a home run by Rengifo that scored Jahmai Jones. The 66ers then added three runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth. In the fourth, Brandon Sandoval hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Jones, while Kevin Williams hit an RBI single in the fifth.
Danny Garcia (0-2) went four innings, allowing five runs and eight hits in the California League game. He also struck out five and walked one.
The Nuts were held scoreless for the fourth time this season, while the 66ers’ staff recorded their third shutout of the year.
Inland Empire improved to 3-1 against Modesto this season.
