BOSTON (AP) — The San Francisco Giants have signed former first-round pick Kyle Drabek to a minor league deal.
San Francisco will give Drabek a look as a pitcher and possibly infielder, Giants general manager Bobby Evans told ESPN.
Drabek, 28, hasn’t pitched in the majors since April 7, when he threw two innings of relief for Arizona.
Drabek, son of 1990 Cy Young Award winner Doug Drabek, signed out of high school with the Phillies in 2006 and was one of their top prospects when Philadelphia dealt him to Toronto in the trade for Roy Halladay in 2009.
Drabek has undergone two elbow reconstruction surgeries and played parts of seven seasons in the majors with the Blue Jays, White Sox and Diamondbacks.
