SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — Franklin Torres touched home with the decisive run in the third inning, as the Inland Empire 66ers beat the Modesto Nuts 3-1 on Monday.
The ground out capped a three-run inning for the 66ers that started when David MacKinnon hit a single, scoring Leonardo Rivas.
In the top of the second, Modesto grabbed the lead on a wild pitch that scored Luis Liberato.
Inland Empire right-hander Travis Herrin (1-0) picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits over five innings. Opposing starter Raymond Kerr (0-1) took the loss in the California League game after giving up three runs and three hits over two innings.
