Inland Empire defeats Modesto Nuts twice

MODESTO (AP) — David MacKinnon hit a three-run home run in the first inning, leading the Inland Empire 66ers to a 6-2 win over the Modesto Nuts on Sunday.

The home run by MacKinnon scored Torii Hunter and Brandon Marsh to give the 66ers a 3-0 lead.

After Inland Empire added a run in the second when Richie Fecteau got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Bernabe Camargo, the Nuts cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Joe Rizzo hit a two-run triple.

The 66ers later tacked on a run in both the sixth and ninth innings. In the sixth, Cole Taylor hit an RBI single before he doubled to score Camargo in the ninth.

Marc Brakeman (3-0) got the win in relief while Modesto starter Ljay Newsome (5-10) took the loss in the California League game.

NUTS 1, 66ERS 0: Austin Hutchison struck out 11 hitters over six innings, leading the Modesto Nuts over the Inland Empire 66ers in a 1-0 win on Saturday.

Anthony McIver got Brandon Marsh to fly out with runners on first and third to end the game for his second save of the season.

Hutchison allowed three hits.

The game’s only run was scored in the bottom of the seventh inning. After reaching base on a walk, Jack Larsen advanced to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a walk by Beau Branton, and then scored on a wild pitch.

Spencer Herrmann (1-0) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Eduardo Rivera (2-5) took the loss in the California League game.
