Lake Elsinore defeats Modesto Nuts

MODESTO  (AP) — Edward Olivares homered and singled twice, scoring two runs as the Lake Elsinore Storm beat the Modesto Nuts 7-4 on Sunday. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Storm.

Kelvin Melean doubled and singled twice for Lake Elsinore.

Lake Elsinore went up 2-0 in the second after Marcus Greene hit an RBI single, bringing home Brad Zunica.

The Storm later added four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. In the fourth, Eguy Rosario hit an RBI single and then scored on a two-run single by Buddy Reed, while Greene hit a solo home run in the fifth.

Lake Elsinore starter Chris Paddack (4-1) picked up the win despite allowing four runs and 10 hits over six innings. Opposing starter Ljay Newsome (4-6) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed six runs and 10 hits over four innings. Blake Rogers recorded his second save of the season.

For the Nuts, Kevin Santa singled three times.
