SAN JOSE (AP) — Luis Liberato drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning, leading the Modesto Nuts to a 9-4 win over the San Jose Giants on Tuesday.
The walk by Liberato capped a two-run inning and gave the Nuts a 5-4 lead after Ariel Sandoval scored on a fielder’s choice earlier in the inning.
Eugene Helder homered twice, driving home three runs and scoring a couple for Modesto.
Modesto starter Nick Wells (1-2) picked up the win despite allowing four runs and six hits over five innings. Opposing starter Garrett Cave (0-3) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed five runs and two hits over 4 1/3 innings.
John Riley homered and singled for the Giants.
