RANCHO CUCAMONGA (AP) — Melvin Mercedes hit a run-scoring single in the fifth inning, leading the Stockton Ports to an 8-2 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Tuesday.
The single by Mercedes started the scoring in a three-run inning and gave the Ports a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, Eric Marinez scored on a forceout and Mercedes scored on a wild pitch.
The Ports later added single runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings to secure the victory.
Dairon Blanco homered and singled for Stockton.
Stockton right-hander Parker Dunshee (2-0) picked up the win after allowing two runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings. Opposing starter Tony Gonsolin (0-1) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed five runs and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Stockton remains undefeated against Rancho Cucamonga this season at 4-0.
