MODESTO (AP) — Joey Curletta hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, leading the Modesto Nuts to a 4-1 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Thursday.

The home run by Curletta scored Jordan Cowan and Eric Filia to break a scoreless tie.

After Modesto added a run in the sixth when Donnie Walton scored on a stolen base, the Storm cut into the deficit in the ninth inning when Yuniet Flores hit an RBI double, driving in Chris Baker.

Modesto starter Anthony Misiewicz (1-1) picked up the win after allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings. Opposing starter Jean Cosme (0-3) took the loss in the California League game after allowing three runs and six hits over five innings.
