MIAMI (AP) — Greg Dobbs' single with two outs in the ninth inning scored Emilio Bonifacio from second base, and the Miami Marlins rallied to end the New York Mets' five-game winning streak with a 6-5 victory on Friday night.
The Marlins scored twice in the ninth off Frank Francisco to win for the ninth time in 10 games. They were coming off an 8-1 trip, the best in franchise history.
The Mets overcame an early 3-0 deficit and entered the ninth on the verge of their fourth consecutive comeback win.
The Marlins trailed 5-4 when Giancarlo Stanton led off the ninth with a double off Francisco (1-2). Stanton took third on a flyout and scored on a single by Bonifacio.
Bonifacio stole second to improve to 17 for 17 this season — the best start in franchise history. After John Buck struck out, Dobbs lined the first pitch from Francisco for a single, and Bonifacio scored without a play.
Three-time All-Star Heath Bell (1-3), who lost his job as Miami's closer after blowing four saves, pitched a perfect ninth to lower his ERA to 9.28.
BRAVES 9, CARDINALS 7, 12 INNINGS
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jason Heyward hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning and the Braves put a damper on the Cardinals' celebration honoring former manager Tony La Russa.
Dan Uggla also homered for the Braves. Craig Kimbrel finished for his NL-leading 11th save in 12 chances.
Carlos Beltran homered twice during a four-hit day for the Cardinals that also included a two-run triple.
A sellout crowd was on hand to watch the Cardinals retire La Russa's No. 10 in a pregame ceremony. But seven Atlanta relievers combined for 7 1-3 innings of one-run ball, helping the Braves end a seven-game losing streak in St. Louis that included a three-game sweep last September that propelled the Cardinals past Atlanta for the NL wild card on the way to their second World Series championship in five years.
Livan Hernandez (1-0) got the win while Kyle McClellan (0-1) was charged with the loss.
BREWERS 8, CUBS 7, 13 INNINGS
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Corey Hart hit an RBI single in the 13th inning to give the Brewers the victory.
With the bases loaded and no outs, Hart sent Lendy Castillo's first pitch back up the middle to end the game after five hours, four minutes. Castillo (0-1) plunked Rickie Weeks on the left hand and Ryan Braun in the back before Aramis Ramirez hit a flare single to right to bring Hart to the plate.
Hart also hit a two-run homer in the ninth to tie it at 7. Vinnie Chulk (1-0) pitched the final two innings for his first victory since Aug. 19, 2007, for San Francisco against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The wild game featured the end of John Axford's run of 49 consecutive saves for the Brewers, the fourth-longest streak in major league history. There were 14 walks by Cubs pitching, none of them intentional.
NATIONALS 7, REDS 3
CINCINNATI (AP) — Roger Bernadina and Danny Espinosa each hit a two-run homer in one of Washington's biggest scoring splurges of the season.
Washington matched its season high for runs by taking advantage of Mike Leake (0-5), who lasted three innings and remained winless in six starts. He gave up seven hits and six runs, including the homers by Bernadina and Espinosa.
It's the second time Leake has failed to last four innings this season.
Nationals Left-hander Gio Gonzalez (4-1) struck out a season-high nine batters — including six in a row — but lasted only five innings because of a high pitch count.
DODGERS 7, ROCKIES 3
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chris Capuano won his fourth straight outing and the Dodgers got home runs from Andre Ethier, Mark Ellis and Juan Uribe.
Capuano (5-0) equaled the best start of his eight-year career, allowing a run and four hits through seven innings. The left-hander retired 17 of 18 batters during one stretch before Michael Cuddyer hit a two-out solo homer in the seventh on Capuano's 101st pitch to end his scoreless streak at 24 2-3 innings.
Jamie Moyer (1-3) gave up five runs and seven hits over five innings and struck out seven. The 25-year veteran left-hander, who turns 50 in November, is winless in four starts with a 6.43 ERA since breaking former Dodger Jack Quinn's record as the oldest pitcher to win a game in the major leagues.
ASTROS 1, PIRATES 0
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Bud Norris allowed three hits in six sharp innings, leading Houston to the win.
Brian Bogusevic singled and scored in the second on a double-play grounder, providing all the offense Houston would need. Norris (3-1), who struck out eight without walking a batter.
Brett Myers pitched the ninth for his ninth save.
Pittsburgh's James McDonald (2-2) extended his impressive start, giving up just four hits in eight innings while striking out eight and walking two.
Norris worked out of a bases-loaded, none-out jam in the sixth and Houston's improved bullpen made it stand up.
PHILLIES 7, PADRES 3
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Carlos Ruiz went 3 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs for Philadelphia, and John Mayberry Jr. homered and drove in three runs.
Vance Worley (3-2) struck out nine in six innings to help the Phillies snap a three-game losing streak.
Placido Polanco had a pair of doubles for Philadelphia, which was playing its first game after manager Charlie Manuel's much-publicized team meeting on Wednesday. The slumping five-time NL East defending champs began the day four games below .500.
Yonder Alonso homered for San Diego, which lost for the eighth time in the last 11 meetings with the Phillies. Clayton Richard (1-5) gave up five runs in 5 1-3 innings.
DIAMONDBACKS 5, GIANTS 1
PHOENIX (AP) — Paul Goldschmidt hit his first home run since his initial at-bat of the season, rookie Patrick Corbin allowed three hits over seven innings and Arizona ended a five-game losing streak.
A.J. Pollock added his first major league homer for the Diamondbacks. Both long balls came off Madison Bumgarner (5-2), who had won five in a row since losing his first start of the season at Arizona on April 7.
Corbin (2-1) struck out four and walked none.
Melky Cabrera homered for the Giants, who have lost nine straight to the Diamondbacks dating to last season.
