NUTS CRACK RAWHIDE: Kelenic leads Modesto to victory over Visalia

MODESTO (AP) — Jarred Kelenic homered and had two hits, driving in two as the Modesto Nuts beat the Visalia Rawhide 4-2 on Sunday. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Nuts and an eight-game winning streak for the Rawhide.

Modesto went up 2-0 in the third after Kelenic hit a solo home run.

After Modesto added two runs, the Rawhide cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Jorge Perez hit an RBI triple and then scored on a single by L.T. Tolbert.

Modesto starter Ian McKinney (3-3) picked up the win after scattering seven hits over six scoreless innings. Opposing starter Jeff Bain (4-3) took the loss in the California League game after allowing three runs and five hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Despite the loss, Visalia is 9-2 against Modesto this season.

 PORTS 6, JETHAWKS 5

 LANCASTER (AP) — Nick Allen hit a run-scoring single in the ninth inning, leading the Stockton Ports to a 6-5 win over the Lancaster JetHawks on Sunday. The Ports swept the four-game series with the win.

The single by Allen capped a two-run inning and gave the Ports a 6-5 lead after Robert Mullen hit a sacrifice fly earlier in the inning.

The Ports cut the deficit to 5-4 when Lazaro Armenteros hit an RBI double, scoring Alfonso Rivas in the eighth.

Nick Highberger (2-2) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Nick Kennedy (0-2) took the loss in the California League game.

For the JetHawks, Ryan Vilade tripled and singled, driving in a run and also scoring one.

STORM 9, GIANTS 2

 LAKE ELSINORE (AP) — Allen Cordoba hit a two-run triple in the third inning, and Jeisson Rosario doubled and singled twice as the Lake Elsinore Storm topped the San Jose Giants 9-2 on Sunday.

The triple by Cordoba started the scoring in a four-run inning and tied the game 2-2. Later in the inning, Lake Elsinore took the lead when Cordoba scored on a passed ball and then added to it when Jalen Washington hit a sacrifice fly.

The Storm later scored five runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Lake Elsinore right-hander Ronald Bolanos (5-2) picked up the win after allowing two runs on just one hit over five innings. Opposing starter John Gavin (2-4) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed nine runs and nine hits over 4 1/3 innings.

RIVER CATS 5

 SACRAMENTO (AP) — Franklin Barreto hit a run-scoring double in the sixth inning, leading the Las Vegas Aviators to a 7-5 win over the Sacramento River Cats on Sunday.

The double by Barreto gave the Aviators a 5-4 lead and capped a three-run inning for Las Vegas. Earlier in the inning, Las Vegas tied the game when Sheldon Neuse hit an RBI double.

The Aviators added to their lead in the eighth when Barreto hit a two-run home run.

Sacramento saw its comeback attempt come up short after Zach Green hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to cut the Las Vegas lead to 7-5.

Starter Paul Blackburn (6-1) got the win while Tyler Rogers (2-2) took the loss in relief in the Pacific Coast League game.

Ronnie Freeman homered and singled, driving in two runs for the River Cats.

With the win, Las Vegas improved to 9-2 against Sacramento this season.
