MODESTO — A seven-run second inning and five-run eighth provided more than enough offense Sunday night for the Modesto Nuts as the Nuts rolled to a 14-3 win over the visiting Stockton Ports at John Thurman Field.

A perfect bullpen complimented the bats for Modesto (36-24). Robert Winslow took the mound in the fourth inning, striking out six in three perfect innings of work and picking up the win. Juan Mercedes, Matthew Willdrodt (strikeout) and Luis Curvelo (two strikeouts) added a perfect inning apiece.

Robert Perez (3 for 5, five RBI, home run, two runs) had the big bat for the Nuts, knocking in five runs including a three-run home run in the second inning. Also in the second inning, Noelvi Marte (2 for 5, three RBI, double, run) doubled in two runs and Cesar Izturis Jr. (2 for 4, RBI, run) singled in one.

Modesto racked up 14 hits as opposed to just four for Stockton (25-35). Jose Rivas and Daniel Bautista each had an RBI for the Ports and T.J. Schofield-Sam came home on a wild pitch.

The Nuts begin a six-game series on the road against the San Jose Giants tonight at 7:05 while also tonight at 7:05 Stockton begins a six-game home stand against the Fresno Grizzlies.
