PORTS WEATHER STORM: Lazaro Armenteros hits grand slam
Stockton scores 7 runs in second inning

STOCKTON  (AP) — Lazaro Armenteros hit a grand slam in the second inning, leading the Stockton Ports to a 12-7 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday.

The grand slam by Armenteros gave the Ports a 10-4 lead and capped a seven-run inning for Stockton. Earlier in the inning, Stockton tied the game when Matt Cross hit a solo home run and then took the lead when Austin Beck hit an RBI single.

The Ports later tacked on a run in both the third and fourth innings. In the third, Jeremy Eierman hit an RBI double, while Robert Mullen hit a solo home run in the fourth.

Alfonso Rivas homered and singled twice, scoring a pair of runs while also driving home a couple for Stockton. Jonah Bride homered and singled twice, scoring a couple of runs while also driving home two.

Will Gilbert (4-1) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Lake Elsinore starter Reiss Knehr (3-4) took the loss in the California League game.

Several Storm chipped in at the plate, as five players had at least a pair of hits. Jalen Washington homered and singled, driving in four runs.

PORTS 1, STORM 0

STOCKTON (AP) — Rafael Kelly allowed just three hits over 5 2/3 innings, leading the Stockton Ports over the Lake Elsinore Storm in a 1-0 win on Saturday. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Ports and a three-game winning streak for the Storm.

Kelly struck out three and walked two.

The game’s only run was scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. After leading off the inning with a single, Yhoelnys Gonzalez stole second, went to third on a single by Ryan Gridley, and then scored on an error.

Michael Danielak (2-0) got the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief while Lake Elsinore starter Caleb Boushley (4-4) took the loss in the California League game.

The Storm were blanked for the eighth time this season, while the Ports’ staff recorded their eighth shutout of the year.

NUTS 11, JETHAWKS 2

LANCASTER  (AP) — Nick Thurman homered and had three hits, and Ian McKinney allowed just two hits over six innings as the Modesto Nuts defeated the Lancaster JetHawks 11-2 on Sunday.

McKinney (10-5) picked up the win after he struck out three and walked three while allowing one run.

Modesto took the lead in the first when Jack Larsen hit an RBI double and then scored on a two-run double by Connor Kopach.

Modesto later scored in three additional innings, including a five-run second, when the team hit three home runs to help put the game out of reach.

NUTS 4, JETHAWKS 2

LANCASTER  (AP) — Jake Scheiner drove in Joseph Rosa with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, leading the Modesto Nuts to a 4-2 win over the Lancaster JetHawks on Saturday.

The sacrifice fly by Scheiner, part of a two-run inning, gave the Nuts a 1-0 lead before Connor Kopach hit an RBI single later in the inning.

After Modesto added two runs, the JetHawks cut into the deficit in the fourth inning when Matt McLaughlin hit a two-run double.

EXPRESS 7. RIVER CATS 3

ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) — Alex De Goti doubled and singled twice, scoring a run and also driving one home as the Round Rock Express beat the Sacramento River Cats 7-3 on Sunday.

Chas McCormick homered and singled with two runs for Round Rock.

Sacramento tied the game 3-3 in the third after Joey Rickard scored on an error and Mauricio Dubon scored on a groundout.

After Round Rock added a run in the third when Abraham Toro scored on an error, the Express added to their lead in the sixth inning when De Goti hit an RBI single and then scored on a two-run double by Myles Straw.

 EXPRESS 10, RIVER CATS 9: ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) — Alex De Goti hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning, leading the Round Rock Express to a 10-9 win over the Sacramento River Cats on Saturday.

The home run by De Goti scored Nick Tanielu and Jamie Ritchie and was the game’s last scoring play.
