CARSON (AP) — Gyasi Zardes scored his sixth goal in his last six games and the Los Angeles Galaxy tied the San Jose Earthquakes 2-2 in the California Clasico on Friday night.
Los Angeles (9-4-7) controlled the ball for the majority of the game, but San Jose (6-8-6) scored twice on counter-attacks.
Zardes had a deflected shot land at his feet in the 29th minute and calmly buried it into the back of the net. Los Angeles’ Omar Gonzalez sent in a low angled header off a corner kick in the 49th minute to tie it at 2.
Chris Wondolowski angled in a goal from the corner of the 6-yard box in the 18th minute for San Jose. He flicked a ball to Matias Perez Garcia — making his MLS debut — in the 31st minute for a 2-1 advantage. Wondolowski has three goals and three assists in five games since returning from the World Cup.
