STOCKTON (AP) — Joe Rizzo hit a two-run double in the seventh inning, leading the Modesto Nuts to an 8-3 win over the Stockton Ports on Thursday. The Nuts swept the three-game series with the win.
The double by Rizzo, part of a four-run inning, gave the Nuts a 5-3 lead before Jack Larsen hit a two-run double later in the inning.
Scott Boches (2-6) got the win with three innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Peter Bayer (1-1) took the loss in the California League game.
Alfonso Rivas homered and singled, driving home three runs for the Ports.
Storm 6, Giants 2
SAN JOSE (AP) — Xavier Edwards drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning, leading the Lake Elsinore Storm to a 6-2 win over the San Jose Giants on Thursday.
Jeisson Rosario scored on the play to break a scoreless tie after he reached base on a walk, stole second and then went to third on a walk by Allen Cordoba.
The Storm later tacked on five runs in the ninth, including a two-run single by Olivier Basabe.
Elliot Ashbeck (6-2) got the win with four innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Camilo Doval (3-5) took the loss in the California League game.
David Villar homered and singled, driving home two runs for the Giants.
River Cats 3, Missions 2
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Mauricio Dubon scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning, leading the Sacramento River Cats to a 3-2 win over the San Antonio Missions on Thursday.
The play capped a two-run inning and gave the River Cats a 3-2 lead after Mike Gerber hit an RBI single earlier in the inning.
In the bottom of the first, San Antonio took the lead on a home run by David Freitas that scored Nate Orf. Sacramento answered in the seventh inning when Francisco Pena hit an RBI single, bringing home Gerber.
Williams Jerez (3-4) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Jimmy Nelson (3-1) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game.
