ROSEVILLE (AP) — Race car driver Lisa Young remains hospitalized after smashing her car into a wall at Roseville’s All American Speedway.
The Sacramento Bee reports the 29-year-old was upgraded to serious condition Monday. She had been listed as critical since the crash Saturday evening.
Young had just started an eight-lap heat when she lost control of her No. 50 Acura Integra. She was leading on the second turn of the first lap before she hit the wall.
Race officials say it’s unclear whether she made contact with another car before slamming into the wall head-on at about 50 mph.
Officials say Young was wearing head and neck restraints.
On Monday, speedway manager Rick Poppert said track conditions were not a factor, calling the wreck an unfortunate accident.
