Timberwolves overcome wind, sprint past LHS

The rain finally let up, but the wind did not for for Sierra’s Valley Oak League track and field meet with visiting Lathrop on Thursday.

The gusts did little to slow the Timberwolves’ roll. The varsity girls team improved to 3-0 in duals with their commanding 102-34 victory. Sierra’s boys won 78-48 and are now 2-1.

Miranda Miller was Sierra’s top points producer for the girls with first-place finishes in the long jump, triple jump and pole vault. Jasmin Correa won the 200 and 400, and Megan Oblin led the back in the 800 and 1,600.

Virly Santos highlighted the Spartans with a win in the 100 hurdles.

Sierra’s Jesse Hurtado was one of the top performers in varsity boys competition. He took firs tin the 800 and mile. Ramon Khweiss sprinted to wins in the 100 and 4x400 for Lathrop. Dafford McKenzie added first-place points in the high jump and was the runner-up in the long jump. Stanley Becerra placed first in the 110 hurdles and second din the 300 hurdles.

 

Frosh-soph girls

Sierra 81, Lathrop 31

Katelyn Finnicum (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Cami Jarmon (100, 200) and Abida Ali (shot, discus) were Sierra’s multi-event winners.

 

Lathrop 76, Sierra 36

Irvin Figueroa (800, mile) and Omar Maxwell (shot, discus) led Sierra, but Lathrop was able to prevent the all-levels sweep.
