STOCKTON — The San Jose Giants tagged Stockton Ports pitching for three home runs and five doubles Sunday afternoon on the way to an 11-2 thumping of the Ports at Banner Island Ballpark.
Brayan Buelvas was a bright spot for an otherwise dismal Stockton offense, getting three of the five Ports hits with a double and home run along with scoring both runs for Stockton (4-8).
Buelvas gave the Ports a 1-0 lead in the first inning. After doubling he scored on a single by Turlock High product Tyler Soderstrom. Buelvas added a solo home run in the fifth inning to draw Stockton within 7-2.
San Jose (7-5) racked up 12 hits in a balanced attack with eight Giants getting at least one hit. The bottom of the San Jose order found the fence twice with No. 8 batter Garrett Frechette and No. 9 batter Abdiel Layer each hitting a home run. Casey Schmitt added the other Giants home run and Layer had one of the five San Jose doubles.
The Ports begin a 12-game road trip Tuesday in Visalia at 6 p.m. and begin a 12-game home stand on Tuesday, June 1, with six in a row against Lake Elsinore.
