• Greinke could make debut on Wednesday: LOS ANGELES – Zack Greinke will pitch on Wednesday. Whether he does it against the Washington Nationals at Dodger Stadium or the San Jose Giants in Rancho Cucamonga, where the Dodgers’ Single-A team plays, remains to be seen. Greinke signed a six-year, $147 million contract with the Dodgers in the offseason but has been on the disabled list since April 12, the day after he broke his clavicle in a fight with San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin. He made a rehab start Friday and came out of a weekend bullpen session in good shape. Some concerns remain, however. … The Chicago Cubs have viewed Anthony Rizzo as a part of their future since they acquired him. Now he’s locked in. The slugging first baseman and the Cubs agreed Monday to a $41 million, seven-year contract that could be worth up to $68 million over nine seasons.



• CITY DISMISSES MANCINI: Manchester City fired manager Roberto Mancini on Monday, exactly one year after he delivered the club’s first English league title in 44 years. The Italian coach, who had four years remaining on his contract, was dismissed just as players from rival Manchester United were being cheered through the streets while they paraded the Premier League trophy that they recaptured from their neighbors.



• CHIEFS HIRE ‘PISTOL’ GURU: The Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t have found a better source for help in implementing — and maybe even defending — the pistol offensive system sweeping through the NFL. The Chiefs have hired former Nevada coach Chris Ault, who used the modified shotgun formation to great success in the college ranks, to serve as a consultant to new coach Andy Reid, offensive coordinator Doug Pederson and the rest of the Kansas City coaching staff. Ault utilized the offense at Nevada with Colin Kaepernick, who led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl this past season.



• JAMES TOPS DEFENSIVE TEAM: LeBron James and Memphis guard Tony Allen headline the NBA All-Defensive First Team. The pair were joined on the first team by Clippers guard Chris Paul (37 points), Thunder forward Serge Ibaka (46), Knicks center Tyson Chandler (24) and Bulls center Joakim Noah (24). Marc Gasol, who was the NBA’s defensive player of the year, made the second team.



• BOOGARD FAMILY SUES NHL: Joanne Boogard and other family members have filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the NHL, blaming the league for brain damage her son, Derek Boogard, suffered playing the game and for his addiction to prescription painkillers.  Derek Boogaard died of an accidental overdose of pain medication and alcohol two years ago; his body was found on May 13, 2011.
