STOCKTON (AP) — Collin Theroux hit a grand slam in the first inning, and Xavier Altamirano pitched seven scoreless innings as the Stockton Ports beat the Modesto Nuts 13-3 on Sunday.
The grand slam by Theroux gave the Ports an 8-0 lead and capped an eight-run inning for Stockton. Earlier in the inning, Stockton scored on three more plays, including a two-run single by Jonah Heim.
The Ports later added two runs in the second, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh to put the game away.
Altamirano (1-0) allowed two hits while striking out eight and walking one to pick up the win.
Nick Wells (0-1) retired one batter by strikeout in the California League game.
With the win, Stockton improved to 11-3 against Modesto this season.
