Villar’s double leads San Jose over Ports in 11 innings

STOCKTON (AP) — David Villar hit an RBI double in the top of the 11th inning to help lead the San Jose Giants to a 4-2 win over the Stockton Ports on Monday. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Giants and a five-game winning streak for the Ports.

Courtney Hawkins scored the go-ahead run on the double after he started the inning on second and advanced to third on a double by Villar. Later in the inning, San Jose added insurance runs when Villar scored on a wild pitch and Bryce Johnson hit an RBI single.

In the bottom of the inning, Stockton scored on a single by Trace Loehr that brought home Jeremy Eierman. However, the rally ended when Olbis Parra got Robert Mullen to hit into a double play to end the game.

Johnson homered and singled, driving home two runs in the win. Heliot Ramos doubled and singled twice.

Rawhide 3, Nuts 1

VISALIA (AP) — Shumpei Yoshikawa allowed just three hits over six innings, leading the Visalia Rawhide over the Modesto Nuts in a 3-1 win on Monday.

Yoshikawa (2-2) picked up the win after he struck out three and walked one while allowing one run.

Visalia got on the board first in the third inning when L.T. Tolbert hit a two-run home run.

After Visalia added a run in the fourth when Jake McCarthy scored on an error, the Nuts cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Eugene Helder hit an RBI single, scoring Jake Scheiner.


River Cats 7, 

Baby Cakes 2

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Francisco Pena hit a pair of homers, leading the Sacramento River Cats to a 7-2 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Monday.

Chris Shaw and Henry Ramos also homered for the River Cats.

The home runs by Pena, both solo shots, came in the fifth off Dustin Beggs and in the eighth off Tommy Eveld.
