MODESTO (AP) — Nick Zammarelli hit a two-run home run and had two hits, driving in three, and Colin Rodgers allowed just three hits over 6 2/3 innings as the Modesto Nuts beat the Lancaster JetHawks 5-1 on Wednesday. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Nuts.
Rodgers (3-3) allowed one run while striking out seven and walking one to pick up the win.
Modesto started the scoring in the second inning. After leading off the inning with a single, Joe Rizzo scored on a triple by Zammarelli.
The Nuts later tacked on four runs in the sixth on home runs by Zammarelli, Evan White, and Gareth Morgan.
David Hill (2-3) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs and eight hits in the California League game. He also struck out three and walked one.
Steven Linkous doubled and singled three times, also stealing a base for the JetHawks.
Despite the loss, Lancaster is 5-2 against Modesto this season.
