Rebels coast into DYFL playoffs

CERES — The Delta Rebels secured their second-place finish in the South Conference and a Delta Youth Football League playoff spot with a 42-0 drubbing of the Ceres Cowboys at Ceres High Saturday.

Quarterback Devin Nunez spearheaded the offense with 67 rushing yards, 127 passing yards and two touchdowns (one rushing). C.J. Manning totaled 140 yards and was on the receiving end of Nunez’s TD strike. He also converted three conversion kicks.

Jason DeFrenchi caught an 11-yard touchdown, and Josh Sanchez added two scores two go with 90 rushing yards. Mateo Hernandez plowed his way into the end zone from 3 yards out and also threw the TD pass to DeFrenchi.

On defense, Mario Maher and Sanchez each recovered a fumble and recorded six and five tackles, respectively. Jacob Gonzales also picked up a fumble for a turnover.

Edward Wilson, Chad Ott and Zach Hendrix added five tackles apiece

The Rebels (5-2) will begin their playoff run at Central Valley High in Ceres this upcoming Saturday.

Broncos 36, Jaguars 0
The No. 4 Manteca Jaguars battled tough with the Central California Conference’s top NFC squad for three quarters, but Modesto broke away with a 22-point barrage in the fourth quarter.

Lechi Nkwocha capped his outstanding season with 11 tackles and an interception. He also led the offense with 18 carries for 63 yards.

Timmy Brown contributed seven tackles, and Edward Gomez had five to go with a pick. Noah Moral blocked a conversion kick.

 

Novice

Rebels 26, Cowboys 19
Emilio Anaya amassed 146 total yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on offense, and produced 11 tackles, an interception and a sack on defense to lead the Rebels (3-4).

Christopher Contreras also had a big day, chiming in with 118 total yards and two of his own TDs.

Other big defensive contributors were: Anthony Rosales (seven tackles, two sacks, two fumble recoveries), Nikko Anaya (two sacks), Matthew Vanhook (nine tackles), Brian Contreras (two sacks, forced fumble), Elijah Sanchez (eight tackles) and Pablo Salcedo (eight tackles).

 

Junior novice

Rebels vs. Cowboys
Daron Nourn highlighted Delta with 280 total yards, and Eric Morales added 120.

Xavier Anaya and Harrison Spurgeon each had four tackles and a sack for the defense.
