Armando Torres led a contingent of seven grapplers representing the Lancer Youth Wrestling Club in the USA Wrestling Kids Folkstyle State Championships on March 16-18.
The 120-pounder was the runner-up finisher in the intermediate division at Fresno’s Selland Arena. The top eight in each division qualify for the USAW Western Regionals set for June 17-23 in Pocatello, Idaho.
Earning seventh place in the middle school division were 70-pounder Branden Rullan and 132-pounder Jaysen Reindel.

Nor Cal Take Down
The first-year program enjoyed a successful debut in the folkstyle state tournament, as five advance to Western Regionals.
Lillian Freitas placed third in the 70-75 intermediate girls and fifth in the 70 bantam girls divisions. The team’s top finisher was Miguel Souza, who went 4-1 en route to a runner-up finish in the 65 intermediate class.
Also placing were Garrett Lee (seventh, 50 bantam), Spencer von Savoye (eighth, 55 bantam) and Carson Prim (sixth, 60 intermediate).
