Three touchdowns and 143 rushing yards from Alex Baker were not enough for the Manteca Jr. Buffaloes’ junior varsity squad Saturday.
The Trans Valley Youth Football League contest ended in heartbreak for the Buffs, as they suffered a heartbreaking 37-36 triple-overtime loss to the Westside Niners of Newman at Manteca High.
Christopher Contreras found other ways to score, doing so on interception and kickoff returns. Joey Goodman grinded out 56 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.
Kyle Rachels, James Thomas and Nick Atuna led the charge defensively.
Novice
Jr. Buffaloes 38, Niners 0
Gino Allen churned out 103 yards and three touchdowns rushing to anchor the onslaught. Manteca led comfortably 32-0 at halftime.
Quarterback Tyler Garlets hooked up with Eric Nascimento for a TD pass, and Ryan Zimmerman scampered for a 50-yard score in the first half. Troy Avila capped the scoring with a TD run.
Evan Ott (six tackles) and Travis Affonso (fumble recovery) highlighted the Jr. Buffaloes’ dominant defense.
Jr. Novice
Jonathan Aranda hit paydirt three times on runs from 12, 40 and 15 yards out in the second half. He ended up with 125 rushing yards.
Justin Beglau (42 yards) and Steadman Gray (30 yards) left their mark in the running game. Everett Hunter (4 tackles) and Gavin Pimentel (3 tackles) each recovered a fumble on defense.
