Chapman leads SPLL Orioles in TOC victory

PATTERSON — The Spreckels Park Orioles bounced back from defeat on Wednesday, waxing the Patterson Phillies 14-4 in four innings to remain alive in the Minor League District 67 Tournament of Champions held at Patterson Community Sports Complex.
The win sets up an elimination game with the Northgate Red Sox today at 5:30. Also today, the Manteca Dodgers, who sent the Orioles into the consolation bracket Tuesday with a 15-5 win, will square off with the Tracy American Tigers in the winners-bracket semifinal.
A.J. Chapman anchored the Spreckels Park win on Wednesday. On top of earning the win as the team’s pitcher, he went 3 for 3 at the plate with two homers, a double and five RBIs. He sparked the Orioles onslaught with a three-run jack in the first inning.
Jackson Fay also hit a home run, and Julian Ruiz hit a triple. Jimmy Burns finished 2 for 2 with a double, Evan Hayne chipped in an RBI single and Gunnar Fay pitched the final two innings.
