The Ripon Chiefs are 3-1 in the Trans Valley Youth Football League thanks to last Saturday’s 30-6 victory over the Modesto Patriots.

The varsity squad jumped out to an 8-0 lead on Nick Price’s 35-yard touchdown run. Steve Crescini connected on the conversion.

Ripon established its defense early on, with Matthew Ysit and Sebastian Gonzalez slowing down the Patriots with big tackles, and Adolfo Sanchez, Drake Vizcarra, Jacob Duxbury, and Daelon Arriola provided some big hits.

Price, who scored three times, came through with a 7-yard TD on a quarterback keeper. On that drive, he hit Andrew Gall on a 30-yard pass play. Caleb McCusker and Cedric Roy contributed with runs of 30- and 10- yards, respectively.

Later in the first half, Cody Haines delivered a big hit on special teams while Elijah Valdez had a key goal-line stop, forcing the Modesto quarterback out of bound.

Price then delivered on a 40-yard scoring run, helping pad Ripon’s lead at the intermission, 24-0.

In the second half, the Chiefs continued their stellar play on defense sparked by Jacob Xavier and Dylan Lopez.

Arriola helped set up Angelo Baciocco’s TD with a long kick-off return. From there, Baciocco hammered the Patriot defense with several power runs to cap the outing at Downey High stadium.

The Chiefs will play host to the Turlock Titans at Stouffer Field on Saturday.

Ripon improved to 4-0-1 due in part to a tough defense and an explosive offensive.

The Chiefs got off to a running start, getting a big 10-yard run by Andrew Durrer and a 40-yard pass play from the combination of quarterback Logan Orlando to Alex Padilla. Orlando scored on a 1-yard plunge.

Ripon made it 12-0 when Orlando again connected with Padilla on the 20-yard touchdown pass play.

The Chiefs’ defense featured big first-half stops by Aaron Paschini and Isaac Adams along with a quarterback sack by Zach Bailey.

In the second half, Luis Candido picked off a pass, returning it for a 25-yard TD.

Nick Myers also helped out the defense by knocking down a pass.

The Chiefs added to their lead on Riley Machado’s 50-yard scoring run. The key play on the drive was a 20-yard run by Paschini.

Dylan Sexton and Luke Navarro delivered some big stops on defense while Austin Pruitt had a 50-yard interception return for another score.

Paschini’s 2-yard touchdown run and a two-point PAT by Padilla provided the final blows.

Derric Roy recovered the opening kickoff and, on the next play, rambled 25 yards for the first touchdown of the game.

Ripon trounced Modesto to improve to 3-1.

Roy also set up Gregory Clark’s 1-yard TD run with his 40-yard run. Clark, who scored twice, had a 20-yard gain on the drive.

Defensively, Dorian Dougherty paced Ripon with help from Roland Davis, Justin Hansen, Gunnar Bertsch, and Adam Wood.

The Patriots went up 20-0 at the half on a Clark touchdown.

Roy began the second half much like the opening kickoff. But this time, he had 70-yard return for a score to up Ripon’s lead.

Philip D’Angelo and Quinn Cunha both recovered fumbles in the second half, with Cunha recovering one in the end zone.

Roy’s third touchdown of the game came on a 65-yard run later in the game.

Other key contributors on defense included Cabe McCusker, Tyler Escobar and Liliana Mejia.
