Manteca Futbol Club’s 2004 Dash girls soccer team wrapped up the first half of its season with a runner-up finish at the Cal Cup.

The Dash ran roughshod through its first three opponents, building an 8-3 goal differential and leading a division of eight in total points (27).

Their first victim was a regional rival — the Ajax United. MFC earned its only shutout in four tournament games with a 2-0 decision.

The Dash escaped with a 3-2 victory over Elk Grove ‘05 Navy in its second game, and then earned a berth in the finals with a 3-1 victory over Ethos FC Saints ‘05 Blue.

MFC continued to dominate the run of play in the final, but couldn’t overcome two early strikes by the host San Juan Spirits in a 2-1 loss.

The Dash will begin the second half of their season on July 8. Until then, head coach Dinesh Singh has opened his roster to new, experienced players.

MFC under-12 Flash

The Flash reached the semifinal round of the Cal Cup, finishing third in a field of 10 teams.

The Flash rebounded from an opening 4-3 loss to the East Diablo Impact with back-to-back wins over the Folsom Flash and the Elk Grove Orange.

Both wins came with little resistance. The Flash defeated their Folsom namesake 5-0 and then routed the Orange 4-1 to reach the semifinals.

There, the Flash lost another shootout with the Impact, 5-4.

The Flash are preparing for the second half of their season and looking for experienced players to join the squad. If you’re interested, contact pkecv@yahoo.com.
