Darien East had a monster game in leading the Manteca Cowboys varsity to a 36-20 win over the Lodi Flames in a Central Valley Youth Football and Cheer contest on Saturday.
East (17 carries, 190 yards) scored on runs 4, 6, 7, 34 and 74 yards along with making seven tackles and a fumble recovery. Nehemiah Tomanogi was 4 of 5 passing for 80 yards.
Joseph Antione III (interception) and Darrion Brown Jr. each made three tackles for the Cowboys.
Manteca Jr. Buffaloes 40, Ceres Bulldogs 0
Manteca’s Brody Carabello threw for three touchdowns and ran for one.
Carabello (seven carries, 139 yards, three touchdowns; 103 yards passing, touchdown) scored on runs of 2, 6 and 78 yards and threw a 20-yard scoring pass to Jackson Frith.
Josiah Moreno (six carries, 63 yards) scored on a 28-yard run and Leiland Riggelman (five carries, 61 yards) added a 4-yard touchdown run. Adriel Cooks chipped in 69 yards on five carries.
Carabello, Moreno, Xavier Schmidt and Isileli Lolohea made five tackles each. Jonathan Arnoldus and Isiah Fountain both added four tackles apiece.
Junior varsity
Cowboys 57, Flames 0
Manteca’s Bryant Lewis and Jonathan Morales scored three touchdowns apiece with two for Erian Johnson Jr.
Lewis scored the two times he carried the ball on 20- and 35-yard runs along with an interception return for a touchdown as did Morales on his two carries of 2 and 13 yards and on an interception return. Johnson Jr. tallied 28- and 50-yard scoring runs on his only two carries and Terrance Montgomery added a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown. Montgomery and Ka'mari Wynne contributed on offense.
Lewis and Johnson Jr. made four tackles apiece with three each for Morales (fumble recovery), Montgomery and Mateo Salcido and two apiece for Akai Henderson, Devin Cortinas and Brayden Freitas. Cristian Cervantes recovered a fumble.
Rookies
Jr. Buffaloes 33, Bulldogs 0
Manteca’s Quinnie Dunbar set the tone with scoring runs of 30 and 45 yards on his first two carries in the first quarter, finishing the day with 100 yards rushing.
DeShon Benton Jr. added a 15-yard touchdown run, Dennis Johnson closed out the first half with a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown and the fourth quarter opened up with A.J. Haines throwing a touchdown pass to Benton Jr.
Benton Jr. led the Manteca defense with seven tackles, Trenton Fitzhugh (interception) and
Quinnie Dunbar both made five tackles with three apiece for Jake Husband, Gabe Torres and Frankie Archuleta.
Cowboys 12, Flames 7
Mateo Gavino scored his second touchdown of the day in the second quarter to give Manteca the come-from-behind win.
Gavino gained 139 yards on eight carries and Max Rios had six carries 41 yards. A.J. Aguirre and Garman Patron both contributed to the Cowboys offense.
Manteca’s Fernando Ceja forced a fumble and made 14 tackles and Able Gorge recovered a fumble and made 10 tackles. Stevens Charvell added seven stops and Gavino five.
