STOCKTON — Manteca did not have an answer for Ripon pitcher Troy Eskes on Monday, and it was Eskes who triggered the mercy rule when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Ripon won handily 12-2 in the District 67 11-and-under All-Star Tournament quarterfinal at August Knodt School.

Eskes threw all four innings, allowing just one earned run with two hits, six strikeouts and four walks.

Ripon tallied seven hits in the second inning with Keegan Heuvel (2 for 2, RBI, run) posting two of them, knocking in one run and scoring another. Reed Van Elderen (2 for 3, RBI, two runs), Max Neto (RBI, two runs) and Luke Mayfield added RBI singles in the fourth with Hunter Scull (two RBI) adding an RBI on a fielder’s choice and Eskes (two RBI) adding another RBI on a bases-loaded walk.

Trent Koolhaas started the game off for Ripon with a double and later scored. Calvin Vander Plaats went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run, Holden Peelman added two runs and Jace Blanco one.

Lucca Day reached on a two-base error for Manteca in the third inning and scored on a throwing error and in the fourth Austin Stirrat walked, took second on a wild pitch, went to third on Jace Reynolds’ single and came home on a Kalaleni Kaleimamahu groundout.

Ripon and Northgate play in the semifinal Wednesday, and Manteca has an elimination game today against Mountain House. Both games start at 5:30 p.m.
