SACRAMENTO – The Manteca Futbol Club Extreme closed out the Sacramento Sun Tan Classic with three consecutive wins, including a 2-1 victory over the Auburn 49er Rage for the tournament championship Aug. 8.
The Extreme were trailing Auburn in the title game 1-0 at the half, but responded over the second-half of play, putting themselves in position for victory with a late goal from Eliana DaSilva to tie the game at 1-1. DaSilva’s goal found the back of the net with only eight minutes remaining, and five minutes later Adrianna Villasenor launched and nailed a long shot lifting the Extreme to the title.
The Extreme opened tournament action with a 2-2 tie against the same 49er Rage squad, but got things rolling with a convincing 5-0 win over the Stockton Crush. Manteca got an outstanding performance from Jessica Reeder, who led the charge with four unanswered goals. Lexi Ziakas, Stephanee Sabala and ReAnna Schmitt all provided Reeder with assists, with Sabala netting the Extreme’s only other goal.
The Extreme landed in the title game after a 2-0 win over Heritage Ambush in a win-and-your-in contest. Sabala added another goal, while teammate Leilani Villasenor chased down a through ball and continued on to the goal past the keeper for the 2-0 final.
Standout goalkeeping played a huge part for the Extreme’s success, as the squad got superb play from keeper Lia Unterholzner, who only surrendered four goals in as many games.
