Elijah Castaneda blasted a three-run, inside-the-park home run Friday to give his Giants a 10-0 walk-off mercy rule win in four innings over the Astros in Spreckels Park Little League second-round minor playoff action at Brock Elliott School.
Castaneda was also part of a stellar pitching corps that held the Astros to two hits. Castaneda (four strikeouts, two hits, two walks) pitched the first two innings.
The Astros mounted a threat in the second inning, getting runners to second and third with no out. Castaneda struck out the next three batters to end the threat.
Lorenzo Jones took the hill for the Giants in the third, striking out two in a 1-2-3 inning and struck out one more in the fourth before yielding to Cody Camarena. Camarena got on strikeout to end the Astros fourth.
The first out of the fourth for the Astros came when Giants right fielder Cage Cisneros cut down a runner at first.
Singles by Josh Graves (2 for 2, RBI, run), Jones (RBI) and Aaron Neeley coupled with three Astros errors led to Mike Guarascio, Graves, Cody Camarena, Jones and Neeley scoring and giving the Giants a 5-0 first-inning lead.
Angelo Aguilar tripled in the second for the Giants and scored on a single by Guarascio to make the score 6-0.
Aguilar walked in the fourth inning and scored on a single by Graves before Graves and Camarena came in on Castaneda’s game-ending home run.
Alex Serrano doubled and Jace Neto singled for the only two Astros hits.
